We’ve all seen the Top Ten Toys lists but sometimes we want to give our children something a bit different, don’t we? A balance bike, or run bike, is a great choice for kids who haven’t yet learnt how to ride a bike and Wishbone makes some of the best available. These bikes can be used as soon as a child can walk and what is really clever about Wishbone’s design is you can make numerous changes to the frame of the bike so that it grows with your kids.
A balance bike is a great choice for kids who haven’t yet learnt how to ride a bike and Wishbone makes some of the best available.
Starting off as a three-wheel trike, it’s perfect for early walkers. As your child grows, change the axel, remove a wheel and you are ready to go with two wheels. Later, and for taller or older kids, you can flip the main frame and create more legroom.
Wishbone takes protecting the environment very seriously so the wood is sustainable ash, the wheels are made from recycled materials and even the packaging is fully recyclable – although Wishbone recommends the box is transformed in to a den, a home or hideaway before being recycled!
Alongside the wooden bikes, Wishbone has now launched the Wishbone RE, a recycled bike that is made from old carpet. Incredibly, the carpet fibre is stripped from the carpet backing, turned in to resin pellets, which can then be moulded into the bike itself – ‘clever stuff’ as the gadget gurus at Gizmodo said.
If you’re undecided between a run bike and traditional pedal bike, some further food for thought can be found in this great article by The Guardian.
And if you’re all set, ready to buy those wheels before Christmas have a look at the full Wishbone range here – why not add some colourful handlebar bike grips, a nameplate and maybe even get us to gift wrap it for you!
