Is a BubbleBum safe? What if it gets punctured?
BubbleBum has been tested and approved to the ECE R44/04 standard for safety for both Groups 2 and 3, and crash tested to meet the USA FMVSS213 standards. It is designed for use with a standard 3 point adult seatbelt that has been approved to ECE Regulation 16 or equivalent.
Groups 2 and 3 are Booster Seats for children who are over 4 and under 12 years of age, and weigh 15-36 Kg (33-79lbs).
BubbleBum is constructed from tough rip-stop materials that are very unlikely to puncture even in extreme conditions such as an accident. However, for your (and our) peace of mind, we have safety tested BubbleBum in the deflated state to R44.04 – and it passed. So although BubbleBum should not be used if punctured, you can be confident that it is safe in the time you continue to use it, before you notice the puncture.
IMPORTANT : Any car seat that has been damaged or involved in a crash should be replaced. There could be non-visible damage to the seat which would affect its performance in a subsequent crash. As with all car seats, read the instructions carefully and email or call us if you have any concerns.
